“Everything happens for a reason; God helps those who help themselves; God won’t give you more than you can handle”… These common phrases, among others, are things we have most likely said or have had said to us at one time or another. But are they really true? Do they sound well intentioned, yet fall short of the truth of Scripture? Pastor and author Adam Hamilton’s book, “Half Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t Say”, explores several clichés in light of the true wisdom of the bible. This Sunday Small Group study began August 21 and will continue through October. Please contact Lynn Thomas (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.

At the present time, we are involved in an interesting and inspiring parallel study of the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Lively discussion is a part of each lesson. Members are encouraged to share ideas, knowledge, and questions with the class. Currently, the class is being lead by June Baker, Bill Taylor, and Mary Engle on alternating Sundays.
A love offering is taken to support a monthly commitment to the Children's Program at Morningstar, Oak Mt. Mission, Safe House in Pelham, and our missionaries to Guatemala, Daniel and Brandi McIntire.
Fellowship opportunities outside of class include cookouts, outings, and holiday gatherings.

More importantly, these videos, filmed in Israel and the Middle East where Bible events actually took place, weaves together historical, cultural, and geographical contexts to reveal keen insights into how people in biblical times understood God and Jesus teaching. Teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan reveals keen insights into the Scriptures significance for believers today.
Women's Life Group
When: Wednesday evenings, beginning September 14 (6-7:15 PM),
Where: Morningstar UMC Campus
Our ladies will begin a new life group called Breathe, led by Julie Mealins and based on Priscilla Shirer’s series. The Sabbath or rest is one of God’s great gifts to us. And yet, one of the greatest challenges women in our culture are facing is taking the time to cease from all the activities and find rest. So many women strive to complete the limitless to-do lists that hinder us from experiencing all that God has for us. If we neglect time for tranquility, serenity, and repose, we miss out on some of God's greatest gifts. If you are weary, worn out, and exhausted, then make plans to join us for this new series.
Youth Senior High Small Groups
Sr. High Girls small group meets on Monday nights, and Sr. High Boys small group meets on Wednesday nights. Topics and locations vary. In an effort to build Christian leaders who are comfortable sharing their faith, group curriculum is chosen and led by the students themselves. These groups may have outside preparations and readings for lessons. These groups offer senior high students an opportunity to work to become firmly planted in their faith before beginning their post-secondary pursuits. For details, see Mr. Kim or Mr. Michael.
